Colebrook / Norfolk Area
Norfolk is the home of the world-renowned Norfolk Chamber Music Festival and Yale Summer School of Music, located on the Ellen Battell Stoeckel estate. The festival features well known classical music performers throughout the summer, and its picturesque grounds are a perfect spot for a picnic on the lawn. Norfolk also features Infinity Hall, an exciting destination year-round, with a lively bistro and a restored historic 1880's theatre with Rock-n-Roll, Folk & Jazz headliners. The town of Norfolk includes fine examples of regional architecture and the area is also home to State Parks, waterfalls and hiking trails.
Horse Drawn Carriage Rides & Sleigh Rides
Both Colebrook and Norfolk are horse country with country roads where it is possible to go on horseback or in a carriage, without encountering an automobile. Rock Hall guests can enjoy a magnificent door-to-door horse drawn carriage ride that begins at Rock Hall, with an option of an on-board picnic with champagne. Additionally, in winter months horse-drawn sleigh rides are available with advance notice, weather permitting.
Hiking, Boating, Fishing, Bicycling & Skiing
Rock Hall is just a few miles from the beautiful Algonquin State Park and Charles Arnold Recreation Area with hiking, lakes, reservoirs, mountains and waterfalls. The area is great for driving tours, enjoying scenic vistas in every season, including blooming mountain laurel in spring and the stunning colors of the Fall Foliage season. This area offers spectacular routes for cycling. Nearby destinations include Dennis Hill State Park with a fire tower that offers remarkable views as far as Long Island on a clear day, Campbell Falls State Park for great hiking, terrific views, lovely waterfalls and a great spot for picnicking, and Haystack Mountain, with wonderful hiking and terrific views. Nearby Ski Mountains include Ski Sundown, Butternut, Catamount and Mohawk.
Connecticut Wine Trail
The Connecticut Wine Trail features 25 wineries and vineyards. Connecticut vineyards have year-round events. Vineyards with four-season tasting rooms close to Rock Hall include Sunset Meadow Vineyards and Haight-Brown Vineyard.
Connecticut Art Trail
The Connecticut Art Trail includes sixteen world-class museums, historic sites and artist studios. Discover diverse, quality collections rich in history and heritage, including European masterpieces, American Impressionism, ancient art Abstract Expressionism, Photography and contemporary culture.
